Getting You Into the Home of Your Dreams: A Conversation with Our New Home Specialists

Sarah Echelberger and Steven Buterbaugh are new home experts. With years of experience and a passion for helping families find their dream homes, they’re always ready to sit down with you and uncover exactly what you’re looking for in your new home.

We sat down with our New Home Specialists to get their insight on their experience and why they love doing what they do. Check out our conversation below:

Hi Steven and Sarah, thanks for joining us today.

Steven: No problem, we’re happy to do it.

Sarah, you joined the Winchester Homes team a little over a year ago. What excites you most about being a part of the team?

Sarah: It’s definitely the pride I feel in the product we produce. I’ve lived in a Winchester home without even knowing it and it was great. It’d be hard for me to sell something I myself wouldn’t use and I can truly say I’d trust having my family in a Winchester home.

And Steven, as a veteran New Home Specialist, what has kept you excited after all these years?

Steven: Winchester Homes has been successful for over 40 years, but it’s still a growing company with great things to come. I’m proud to be a part of a long-standing company and excited to be a part of its future!

What drew each of you to the real estate industry in the first place?

Sarah: Ever since I was little I’ve liked houses. I even used to make my Dad drive me around to look at them on the weekends. So, when I needed a career change from the sports industry, I soon discovered that real estate was exactly where I wanted to be.

Steven: My passion for real estate started young as well. When I was a child, when my Mom would ask me what I wanted from the grocery store, I would always say a home plans magazine. Making it my career was the most natural thing in the world.

Can you each speak a little to your background in the industry?

Sarah: As I mentioned, I worked in the sports industry for several years. Then I met the broker who helped my Mom find her townhome, and I ended up working for him in the resale side of things for about 3 years before I came to Winchester.

Steven: I officially jumped into the industry in 1995 as a Sales Assistant for a local homebuilder the summer before I started college. Then I began to work for them full-time after I graduated in 2001. I’ve been in online sales and marketing roles in the new home industry ever since.

You help people find their dream homes every day. What’s the most rewarding part of that?

Steven: Helping them build a life. It’s incredibly rewarding to be a part of one of the most important moments in their life.

Sarah: I agree with Steven. Home is where most of your memories are made. It’s a place you spend some of your most precious moments, where you go to feel safe…it’s a huge part of your life emotionally. That’s really powerful and I love those moments when you see someone finally find that.

Steven, after years in your position, what is your favorite aspect of the role?

Steven: It’s great to be the first point of contact for our customers to learn more about our homes and communities. For me, it’s all about building that relationship with them before they even visit a Winchester Homes community. I take pride in helping to lay the foundation for a wonderful customer experience.

And Sarah, you’re new to the New Home Specialist role. What has been your favorite part so far?

Sarah: The one thing I’ve liked the most so far is getting to know our products and New Home Advisors more. When you’re out in the field, you only work with your product and only get to know the other NHA’s out in that community with you. I feel more immersed in Winchester Homes now.

Ok, last question for both of you. What do you love most about working together to introduce shoppers to the Winchester Homes brand?

Steven: The words “I” or “me” are not in my vocabulary when speaking with customers, I’m all about “we” or “us”. Teamwork makes the dream work.

Sarah: I second what Steven said and don’t think I could put it any better. I love that we work with each other, not in competition with one another. You have someone there that understands the job’s daily challenges and is equally excited about the wins, big or small. You just don’t feel like the lone captain on the ship — that’s a great feeling.
